Knoxville Opera Celebrates Opening of ‘Falstaff’ With Accompanying Shakespeare Camp

By Afton Wooten

In preparation for its 2023-24 season opener “Falstaff,” Knoxville Opera welcomes local high school students for “Falstaff: Comedy & Shakespeare Camp.”

From Oct. 9-13 at the Knoxville Opera’s offices, participants will explore Shakespearean style, comedy, stage presence, and performance practices. Bijou Theatre’s Nathan McGhee and soprano Sarah Clementine Mire lead the activities. The camp culminates with the opportunity for students to showcase their talent by welcoming audience members with Shakespearean recitals as they enter the theater for “Falstaff” performances.

Verdi’s comic opera will be presented at the Tennessee Theatre on Oct. 13 and 15 and will star Steven Condy in the title role, Kevin Godinez as Ford, Derrek Stark as Fenton, and Tori Patricia Franklin in the role of Alice Ford.

Dean Anthony directs and Jorge Parodi conducts.
