
Kirill Serebrennikov Receives Major French Prize
By Francisco SalazarOn May 17, Kirill Serebrennikov was awarded Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
The director, who is currently in rehearsals for a new production of “Boris Godunov” for Dutch National Opera, was honored at the Cannes Film Festival by Minister of Culture Rachida Dati.
Serebrennikov is at Cannes as his upcoming film “The Disappearance of Josef Mengele” will premiere at the festival in the Cannes premiere section of the festival. The director has previously been at Cannes with his films “Tchaikovsky’s Wife,” “Limonov-The Ballad,” “Ptrov’s Flu,” and “Leto,” among others.
He has directed at the Bolshoi Theatre, Wiener Staatsoper, and Komische Oper Berlin, among others.
“Boris Godunov” opens on June 10 and will star Tomasz Konieczny in the title role.
