Kezia Bienek & Julian Henao Gonzalez to Give a Recital at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Fringe Events

By Afton Wooten

Opera Rara and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) have announced that mezzo-soprano Kezia Bienek and tenor Julian Henao Gonzalez will be featured in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World fringe events.

The concerts and exhibition are part of RWCMD’s program of fringe events which coincide with the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. The two artists will perform with pianist James Southall, the Interim Music Director of the David Seligman Opera School at RWCMD. Two lunchtime concerts will include restorations of Donizetti songs from the collection. Later on, the exhibition will dive deeper into the Foyle Opera Rara Collection which houses manuscripts, letters, and memorabilia relating to 19th-century Italian bel canto opera.

The multiple events spotlight the relationship between the College and Opera Rara which began with the purchase of The Foyle Opera Rara Collection in 2018. The works are now part of the college’s specialist collections and continue to create professional development opportunities for students and alumni. The Exhibition takes place June 10 – 18 with guided tours held June 13 -15 throughout the afternoons.

Bienek’s concert will be held in Dora Stoutzker Hall on June 13 at 1:15 p.m., with Gonzalez’s concert on the 14th.
