Kerem Hasan Named Music Director of Badisches Staatstheater
By Francisco SalazarThe Badisches Staatstheater has announced the appointment of Kerem Hasan as the new General Music Director.
Hasan will assume the role in Karlsruhe starting with the 2027-28 season.
He will succeed Georg Fritzsch and Hasan will carry on the distinguished tradition of the Badische Staatskapelle while simultaneously introducing fresh artistic impulses.
In a statement General Director Christian Firmbach said, “I am very much looking forward to working with Kerem Hasan; among the final group of candidates, he stood out for his immense artistic vision and garnered exceptionally broad support within the theater. His profound, infectious love for music and his creativity will help us guide the Badische Staatskapelle and the Badisches Staatstheater into a new future—even during times made challenging by financial constraints and renovation work, and sometimes by taking unconventional paths.”
Hasan added, “When I conducted the Badische Staatskapelle for the first time, I was deeply impressed by the orchestra’s extraordinary musicality and passion. I immediately felt a strong artistic connection with the musicians, whose dedication to music resonates deeply with my own convictions. It is a great honor for me to assume the position of General Music Director in Karlsruhe. I look forward to helping shape the full spectrum of the Badisches Staatstheater’s artistic work together with the Badische Staatskapelle, the opera ensemble, the chorus, and the entire staff. Together, we will build upon the theater’s rich traditions while finding new ways to reach and inspire audiences in Karlsruhe and beyond. I am tremendously excited about this collaboration and everything we will achieve in the years to come.”
