Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe Announces 2023-24 Season

Germany’s Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe has announced its 2023-24 season. Here are the operatic and vocal performances.


Verdi’s “Nabucco” will get a new production by Thaddeus Strassberger. Yura Yang conducts.

Premiere Date: Oct. 21, 2023

Strauss’ “Die schweigsame Frau” will be conducted by Georg Fritzsch and directed by Mariame Clément.

Premiere Date: Dec. 19, 2023

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will be directed by Nilufar K.Münzing and conducted by Johannes Willig.

Premiere Date: Jan. 20, 2024

Händel’s rarely performed “Siroe, Re di Persia” will be directed by Ulrich Peters and directed by Attilio Cremonesi. The production will star Armin Kolarczyk, Rafał Tomkiewicz, Sophie Junker, Shira Patchornik, Filippo Mineccia, and Oğulcan Yilmaz

Premiere Date: Feb. 16-29, 2024

The kinderoper “Schaf” will be presented in a production by Anja Kühnhold and directed by Jan Arvid Prée.

Premiere Date: Feb. 24, 2024

Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” will be directed by Vera Nemirova and conducted by Georg Fritzsch.

Premiere Date: March 31, 2024

Johannes Willig conducts Zemlinsky’s “Der Kreidekreis” in a production by Sebastian Ritsche.

Premiere Date: June 15, 2024


Puccini’s “La Bohème” will be revived with Georg Fritzsch conducting.

Revival Date: Sept. 24, 2023

Johannes Willig conducts Dvorak’s “Rusalka.”

Revival Date: Oct. 3, 2023

Yura Yang conducts Bizet’s “Carmen.”

Revival Date: Nov. 4, 2023

Humperdinck’s “Hansel und Gretel” returns with  Johannes Willig conducting.

Revival Date: Nov. 26, 2023

Händel’s “Ottone re di Germania” will be presented with Carlo Ipata conducting. The production will star Yuriy Mynenko, Lucía Martín-Cartón, Nathanaël Tavernier, Lena Belkina, Raffaele Pe, and Sonia Prina.

Revival Date: Feb. 22-28, 2024

Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” will be presented with Andreas Spering leading the production.

Revival Date: March 10, 2024

Georg Fritzsch conducts Puccini’s “Tosca.”

Revival Date: April 20, 2024

Yura Yang conducts “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”

Revival Date: May 10, 2024

Verdi’s “La Traviata” will be the last revival of the season with Yura Yang conducting.

Revival Date: June 24, 2024


Georg Fritzsch conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28 & 29, 2024

Michael Schneider conducts a Handel gala with Elisabeth Breuer, Danae Kontora, Eleazar Rodriguez, and Raimund Nolte.

Performance Date: Feb. 17, 2024

Max Emanuel Cencic will present a Handel gala with conductor Martyna Pastuszka.

Performance Date: March 1, 2024
