Karita Mattila Adds Concert At Savonlinna Festival

By Francisco Salazar

Karita Mattila will provide an extra night of singing to celebrate her 60th birthday at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.

After having announced the gala at the festival earlier this year, the concert was sold out immediately. As a result, the festival and soprano have added an extra night for Monday, July 27, 2020.

The program for the gala will feature Mattila’s favorite roles over recent years, such as Ariadne, Elisabetta from “Tannhäuser” and her latest love, Isolde. The Opera Festival orchestra will be conducted by a fellow Finn, Hannu Lintu.

Next summer’s Opera Festival will be held from July 2 to August 1  and will feature “King Roger” by Karol Szymanowski as well as “Carmen,” “La Traviata” and “The Barber of Seville,” among other works.

Ticket sales for Mattila’s gala will start next Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019.
