On May 26, 2023, the Portland Opera will celebrate the work of Terence Blanchard with “Absence.”

The one-night showcase will feature such artists as Karen Slack and Will Liverman. They will be joined by the Portland Opera Orchestra, the E-Collective, the Turtle Island Quartet, and conductor Damien Geter.

“What an honor to share the stage with my dear friend the extraordinary Grammy award-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard,” Slack, Portland Opera Co-Artistic Advisor, said in an official press statement. “A prolific artist and an American treasure! I am filled with both gratitude and excitement that Portland Opera is presenting him alongside the thrilling E-Collective band, Turtle Island Quartet and the magnificent baritone Will Liverman. This promises to be a night the city of Portland won’t forget!”

There will be an After Party following the concert, which kicks off at 8 p.m. local time.

Blanchard’s “Champion” recently premiered at the Metropolitan Opera.
