Conductor Karel Mark Chichon has extended his contract to remain Chief Conductor & Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria until the 2026-27 season.

He first took on the position in 2017 and under his leadership, the ensemble has become the only Spanish orchestra to record with Deutsche Grammophon.

In an official press statement released by the organization, the conductor recognized that “this orchestra inspires me and I consider it the best musical gift that I have received in my life, with the energy and inspiration that it has given me.”

The announcement was made during a press conference that featured Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and Pedro Justo, vice president of the Fundación Orquesta Filmarmónica de Gran Canaria, and Manuel Benitez, manager of the Fundación Orquesta Filmarmónica de Gran Canaria.
