Juilliard’s Spring ChamberFest to Feature Works by Rhiannon Giddens

By Afton Wooten

Juilliard’s Spring ChamberFest is set to feature works by Juilliard Creative Associate and resident Rhiannon Giddens.

Select Juilliard students will present five public concerts over the course of three days.

The program, which focuses on both classical and folk traditions, and curated by Giddens, will include three of her original compositions and excerpts from her new opera “Omar.” Audiences will also hear the works of Catherine Lamb, Beethoven, Brahms, Elgar, Piazzolla, and Price.

As part of their coaching with Giddens, students were tasked with the additional challenge of learning her piece “Black Lucy and the Bard” by ear.

During the March 13 concert, Giddens will discuss her creative and coaching process with a panel of students.

Performances run March 13 – 15, 2023, in Paul Hall at Julliard. All concerts will be live-streamed.
