The Birgit Nilsson Museum will present a concert performance of Puccini’s “Tosca,” starring Joyce El-Khoury, and close out the 6th year of Birgit Nilsson Days in grand fashion.

El-Khoury will sing the title role alongside Michael Fabiano as Cavaradossi on Aug. 12, 2023.

In an Instagram post announcing the performance, El-Khoury stated, “I’m excited to return to Birgit Nilsson’s home in Sweden on August 12th to perform ‘Tosca’ with my dear [Michael Fabiano] as Cavaradossi.”

The soprano is returning to Birgit Nilsson Days, having sung the role of Amelia in “Un ballo in maschera,” in 2022.

The role of Floria Tosca was a Nilsson favorite. The website birgitnilsson.com states, “In 1951 Birgit Nilsson sang her first Tosca at the Royal Swedish Opera. Throughout her career she sang this role with many of the world’s most famous tenors including Jussi Björling, Franco Corelli, Beniamino Gigli, Giuseppe di Stefano, Richard Tucker and Placido Domingo – who was awarded the first Birgit Nilsson Prize in 2009.”

El-Khoury most recently performed the role of Rose R in Tobias Picker’s “Awakenings” in a production staged by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera.
