Joyce El-Khoury, Karita Mattila, Lucas Meachem & Latonia Moore Headline The Dallas Opera’s 2021-22 Season

With the Dallas Opera canceling its 2020-21 season, the company has announced its 2021-22 season starting in February of 2022.

The official grand opening of The Dallas Opera 2021-22 Season will feature Puccini’s “Madama Butterly” starring Latonia Moore as Cio Cio San and Evan LeRoy Johnson as Pinkerton. Emmanuel Villaume, TDO’s Mrs. Eugene McDermott music director, will conduct a cast that also includes Megan Marino and Michael Adams.

Performance Dates: Feb. 18-26, 2022

Jonathan Dove’s opera “Flight” will make its Dallas Opera premiere with a starry cast that is set to include John Holiday, Karita Mattila, and Jessica Pratt. Emmanuel Villaume will conduct, with further casting to be announced.

Performance Dates: March 4-12, 2022

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” will make its return with a cast that includes Lucas Meachem stars as Figaro, Wallis Giunta portraying Rosina, and Alasdair Kent singing the role of Count Almaviva in a production from Minnesota Opera. Peixin Chen and Adam Lau round out the cast.

Performance Dates: March 19-27, 2022

The season concludes with Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers,” in the much-lauded production from Santa Fe Opera. The production will star Joyce El-Khoury as Leïla, René Barbera as Nadir, Alfredo Daza as Zurga, and Morris Robinson as Nourabad. Nicole Paiement, TDO’s Martha R. and Preston A. Peak principal guest conductor, will be on the podium.

Performance Dates: April 2-10, 2022

Concerts 

The Joyce DiDonato “VIVA DIVA” concert will take place on May 10, 2021 with socially distanced seating in the Winspear.

The Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition, The Hart Institute for Women Conductors Showcase Concert, the TDO Family Season performances of Jack and the Beanstalk and Doctor Miracle, and the Student Matinees will all be delayed until later in the year, with dates yet to be announced.

Famed baritone Benjamin Appl will appear as part of the Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Art Song Recital Series. The exact performance date will be announced in the near future.
