
Joyce El-Khoury, Deepa Johnny & Andriana Chuchman Lead Vancouver Opera’s 2026-27 Season

In a statement, Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera General Director said, “Our 67th season invites audiences to confront power, delight in comedy, and open themselves to vulnerability with timeless classics that are adored by opera audiences everywhere. We are bringing internationally celebrated artists and visionary Canadian directors together with our Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Chorus for a trio of productions that speak urgently to love, power, sacrifice, and resilience. Whether tragic, comic, or heartbreakingly intimate, each opera invites audiences to feel profoundly moved and reflect deeply.”
The season opens with Puccini’s “Tosca“ with Vancouver Opera Music Director Jacques Lacombe conducting and Brenna Corner directing. Joyce El-Khoury stars as the title role, opposite tenor David Pomeroy as Cavaradossi, and baritone Gregory Dahl as Baron Scarpia.
Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 1, 2026
Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville“ will be conducted by Leslie Dala and directed by Morris Panych. Canadian mezzo-soprano Deepa Johnny makes her Vancouver Opera debut as Rosina, with baritone Clarence Frazer as Figaro and tenor John Tessier as Count Almaviva.
Performance Dates: Feb. 13-21, 2027
Verdi’s “La Traviata“ concludes the season with soprano Andriana Chuchman as Violetta. Conducted by Jacques Lacombe, the opera will be directed by Idan Cohen.
Performance Dates: April 24-May 2, 2027
