Joyce DiDonato & Michael Spyres Lead Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg 2023-24 Season

The Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg has announced its 2023-24 season starring Joyce DiDonato and Michael Spyres.

“Don Giovanni in the Underworld” is presented by the Choir of the Opéra national du Rhin.

Performance Dates: September 16-21, 2023

Ernst van Tiel conducts the Strasbourg Philharmonic Choir in “Amadeus Live.”

Performance Dates: October 13-14, 2023

Artist in residence Bruno Mantovani presents “Everything you always wanted to know about contemporary music but were afraid to ask: composing an opera.”

Performance Date: October 17, 2023

Soprano Fanny Soyer, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenor Yu Shao, baritone Jean-Christophe Lanièce, and  Strasbourg Philharmonic Choir present the annual “Christmas Concert.” Aziz Shokhakimov conducts.

Performance Date: December 18, 2023

The first part of Alexandre Astier’s “Kaamelott” film trilogy is performed live by more than 100 musicians and singers in synchronization with the screening of the film. Frank Storbel conducts the Spirito Choir.

Performance Date: December 22, 2023

“Joyce DiDonato and Michael Spyres” are joined by conductors Ludovic Morlot and John Nelson at Palais de la Musique et des Congrès to present a concert of Hector Berlioz and Richard Wagner.

Performance Date: January 26, 2024

Michael Spyres takes on the title role in Wagner’s “Lohengrin.” The cast also includes Johanni van Oostrum as Elsa von Brabant, Anaïk Morel, Josef Wagner, Timo Riihonen, and Edwin Fardini. They are joined by the Chorus of the Opéra national du Rhin. Aziz Shokhakimov conducts.

Performance Dates: March 10-22, 2024 (Rhine National Opera) & April 7 -10, 2024 (Mullhouse)

The Strasbourg Philharmonic Choir performs “Sunrises of the day” with violinist Nemanja Radulović and conductor Aziz Shokhakimov. The concert features works by Ravel and Tchaikovsky.

Performance Dates: April 4-5, 2024

Albéric Magnard’s “Guercoeur stars Stéphane Degout in the title role, with Catherine Hunold, Antoinette Dennefeld, Julien Henric, and others. Ingo Metzmacher conducts the Chorus of the Opéra national du Rhin.

Performance Dates: April 28 – May 7, 2024 (Rhine National Opera) & May 26-28, 2024 (Mullhouse)

Soprano Pretty Yende and baritone Ludovic Tézier along with the Choir of the Orchestre de Paris share Brahm’s “German Requiem.” 

Performance Date: June 4, 2024

As part of  the Orchestra on Tour, “German Requiem” is performed at the Basilica of Saint Denis with the same casting.
