Grange Park Opera has announced the death of Christina Gascoigne on August 14, 2026 at the age of 88.

In a statement the opera company said, “We are very sad to bring the news that Christina Gascoigne died this morning at home in Richmond. There was a lovely atmosphere there – lots of people wandering in and out, potters walking through to the pottery, people sitting for a while. There was talk around her and music. Christina was always listening and absolutely there. She was reciting a scrap of German literature to someone two days ago. She beamed when people she loved came in. There was something wonderful to see her amidst all the people who have come together because of her and Bamber; all the connections they have made. There was great gentleness and positivity around Christina. She was calm and lovely. Without Christina and Bamber, we would not have our magnificent Surrey opera house. We will all miss her. Gascoigne met Bamber at Cambridge and they married in 1965. She worked in ceramics, silks and photography.
