The Adelaide Oval is set to present Verdi’s “Aida” in Franco Zeffirelli’s monumental Arena di Verona production.

The production will be shown on Feb. 5 and 6 with two casts. The first night will see super star tenor Jonas Kaufmann and superstar mezzo Elīna Garanča alongside two time grammy winner Angel Blue in the title role. Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Morris Robinson round out the cast.

The second cast will be headed by Brian Jagde and María José Siri alongside Agnieszka Rehlis, Youngjun Park, and Morris Robinson.

Nicola Luisotti will conduct both evenings.

The production will bring over 400 internationally acclaimed artistic and technical teams from the Arena di Verona, and 300 local crew members, making it the largest opera production ever presented in Australia. There will also be a 100-piece orchestra and a 150-member chorus.

Kaufmann is known for his interpretation of Radames having performed it at the Arena di Verona and Wiener Staatsoper while Garanča has sung Amneris at the Royal Opera House, Wiener Staatsoper, and Berlin Stater Opera. Finally Blue has performed the title role of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House.
