Jonas Kaufmann Announces New CD ‘The Sound of Movies’

By David Salazar

Superstar tenor Jonas Kaufmann has announced that his next album will be “The Sound of Movies.”

The tenor took to social media to share that the new CD will feature music from “West Side Story,” “Gladiator,” “Cinema Paradiso,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Once Upon a Time in America,” “Now We are Free,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and “The Great Caruso,” among others. Kaumfann is joined by Jochen Rieder and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

“Immersing yourself in this world for a few hours and forgetting everything around you is incredibly fascinating – similar to the theater or opera,” Kaufmann said in an official press statement. “I’ve traveled a lot over many years, often alone for weeks and months in foreign cities at the other end of the world. In addition to museums, it was the cinema – that great opportunity to entertain yourself when you’re alone – that captured my imagination.”

“The Sound of Movies” is the latest album by Kaufmann with Sony Classical (per the website, Kaufmann has released 26 total albums with Sony starting with the 2013 release “The Verdi Album”). Other recent album releases include the compilation CD “The Tenor,” “It’s Christmas,” “Liszt,  – Freudvoll und Leidvoll,” “Selige Stunde,” and Verdi’s “Otello.”

Next up for Kaufmann is a production of “Werther” in London, “Otello” at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and a recital at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
