Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko, Marina Rebeka, Juan Diego Flórez & Sonya Yoncheva Lead Teatro alla Scala’s 2022-23 Season

The Teatro alla Scala has announced its 2022-23 Season featuring opera, recitals, and symphony concerts.

Opera 

The season opens with Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov.” The production will be directed by Kasper Holten and conducted by Riccardo Chailly. The work will star Ildar Abdrazakov, Lilly Jørstad, Anna Denisova, Agnieszka Rehlis, Norbert Ernst, Alexey Markov, Ain Anger, Misha Didyk, Andrii Goniukov, Alexander Kravets, Maria Barakova, Yaroslav Abaimov, and Oleg Budaratskiy.

Performance Dates: Dec. 7-29, 2022

Vida Miknevičiūtė sings the title role of Strauss’ “Salome” alongside Michael Volle, Tomasz Konieczny, Sebastian Kohlhepp, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, and Linda Watson. Zubin Mehta conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 14-30, 2023

Hugo de Ana directs a new production of Verdi’s “I Vespri Siciliani” with Fabio Luisi conducting. The cast is led by Luca Micheletti, Roman Burdenko, Adriano Gramigni, Piero Pretti, Dmitry Beloselskiy, Marina Rebeka, and Angela Meade.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28-Feb. 21, 2023

Freddie De Tommaso, Marina Rebeka, Irina Lungu, Alessio Arduini, Luca Micheletti, Jongmin Park, Mariam Battistelli, and Andrea Concetti lead Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Eun Sun Kim conducts the production that will see Lungu sing both Mimi and Musetta in alternating casts.

Vittorio Grigolo leads Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” with Ildar Abdrazakov, Marina Viotti, Federica Guida, Francesca Di Sauro, and Eleonora Buratto. Frédéric Chaslin conducts the new production by Davide Livermore.

Performance Dates: March 15-31, 2023

Vinci’s “Li zite ‘ngalera”  will be conducted by Andrea Marcon and directed by Leo Muscato. Francesca Aspromonte, Cecilia Molinari, Francesca Pia Vitale, Alberto Allegrezza, Filippo Mineccia, Raffaele Pe, and Marco Filippo Romano star.

Performance Dates: April 4-21, 2023

Riccardo Chailly conducts a new production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” directed by Yannis Kokkos. The cast includes Lisette Oropesa, Juan Diego Flórez, Ildebrando d’Arcangelo, and Boris Pinkhasovich.

Performance Dates: April 13-May 5, 2023

Yusif Eyvazov and Jonas Kaufmann lead Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier” with Ambrogio Maestri, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Sonya Yoncheva. Marco Armiliato conducts.

Dmitry Korchak, Elena Guseva, Olga Bezsmertna, Jongmin Park, and Okka von der Damerau lead the new production of Dvořák’s “Rusalka.” Tomáš Hanus conducts the production by Emma Dante.

Giampaolo Bisanti conducts Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Luca Salsi, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Jongmin Park, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Anna Netrebko, and Fabio Sartori.

Evelino Pidò conducts Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with soloists from the Teatro alla Scala academy.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4-18, 2023

Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Olga Bezsmertna, Benedetta Torre, Luca Micheletti, and Svetlina Stoyanova.

Performance Dates: Sept. 30-Oct. 20, 2023

Simone Young conducts Britten’s “Peter Grimes” with Robert Carsen directing. Brandon Jovanovich takes on the title role alongside Nicole Car, Ólafur Sigurdarson, Margaret Plummer, Michael Colvin, Peter Rose, Natascha Petrinsky, Benjamin Hulett, Leigh Melrose, and William Thomas.

Performance Dates: Oct. 18-Nov. 2, 2023

Montemezzi’s “Le Amore dei Tre Re” will be conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Àlex Ollé / La Fura dels Baus. Günther Groissböck, Roberto Frontali, Giorgio Berrugi, Giorgio Misseri, and Chiara Isotton star.

Symphony Concerts

Daniele Gatti conducts Mahler’s Symphony No 3 with Treble Voices of the Teatro alla Scala Academy.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9-12, 2022

Riccardo Chailly conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with soloists Marina Rebeka, Krassimira Stoyanova, Regula Mühlemann, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Okka von der Damerau, Klaus Florian Vogt, Andrè Schuen, and Ain Anger.

Recitals 

Michael Volle and Helmut Deutsch open teh recital series in an evening of Mozart, Schubert, and Liszt.

Markus Werba and Michele Gamba performn Schubert’s Winterreise.

Renée Fleming returns to the Teatro alla Scala for a recital with Evgeny Kissin. The evening centers on the music of Rachmaninoff.

Plácido Domingo and Gustavo Dudamel conduct the Vienn Symphony in a Rolex Ambassadors concert featuring Juan Diego Flórez, Jonas Kaufmann, Yuja Wang, and Sonya Yoncheva.

Valtinoni’s “The Little Prince” will be presented with Vitali Alekseenok conducting and Polly Graham directing.
