The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced its 2021-22 season featuring new productions and revivals as well as concerts.
Here is a look at the new season.
Premieres
Shostakovich’s “The Nose” will get a new production by Kirill Serebrennikow. Vladimir Jurowski conducts the cast that includes Boris Pinkhasovich, Sergei Leiferkus, Gennady Bezzubenkov, Andrey Popov, Sergey Skorokhodov, Anton Rositskiy, Aleksandra Durseneva, Mirjam Mesa, Doris Soffel, Laura Aikin, and Tansel Akzeybek
Performance Dates: Oct. 25, 2021-July 20, 2022
Daniel Behle stars in Lehár’s “Giuditta” in a production by Gábor Káli and Christoph Marthaler conducting. The cast also includes Vida Miknevičiūtė in the title role, Sebastian Kohlhepp, Kerstin Avemo, and Jochen Schmeckenbecher.
Performance Dates: Dec. 18, 2021-Jan. 6, 2022
Barrie Kosky directs Janácek “The Cunning Little Vixen” with Wolfgang Koch leading the cast and Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla conducting. The opera will also star Yajie Zhang, Jonas Hacker, Martin Snell, Milan Siljanov, Caspar Singh, Elena Tsallagova, Mirjam Mesak, Angela Brower, Lindsey Ammann, Armando Elizondo, and Eliza Boom
Performance Date: Jan. 30-Julu 16, 2022
Britten’s “Peter Grimes” will be conducted by Edward Gardner and directed by Stefan Herheim. Stuart Skelton stars in the title role alongside Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Iain Paterson, and Claudia Mahnke.
Performance Date: Feb. 28-July 12, 2022
Haydn’s “L’infedeltà delusa” will be conducted by Giedre Slekyte and directed by Marie-Eve Signeyrole. Jasmin Delfs, Emily Sierra, Jessica Niles, Armando Elizondo, and Joel Williams star.
Performance Date: March 19-29, 2022
Christophe Honoré directs a new production of “Les Troyens” by Berlioz starring Stéphane Degout as Chorèbe, Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Cassandre, Gregory Kunde as Énée, and Anita Rachvelishvili as Didon. Daniele Rustioni conducts a cast that also stars Eve-Maud Hubeaux, Ekaterina Semenchuk, and Brandon Jovanovich.

Claus Guth directs “Bluthaus – Lamento della Ninfa, Il ballo delle ingrate.” Titus Engel conducts a cast that include Vera-Lotte Böcker, Nicola Beller Carbone, and Bo Skovhus.

Romeo Castellucci directs “Koma – Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda.” Teodor Currentzis conducts.

Georg Friedrich Haas and Claudio Monteverdi’s “Thomas – Lamento d’Arianna” will be conducted by Alexandre Bloch and directed by Anna-Sophie Mahler. Holger Falk, Konstantin Krimmel, Hagen Matzeit, Randall Scotting, Caspar Singh, Yajie Zhang, Daria Proszek, and Lini Gong star.

Penderecki’s “Die Teufel von Loudun” will be directed by Simon Stone with Vladimir Jurowski conducting and Ausrine Stundyte leading the cast.

Strauss’ “Capriccio” will be conducted by Lothar Koenigs and directed by David Marton. Diana Damrau and Pavol Breslik star in the production alongside Michael Nagy, Vito Priante, Kristinn Sigmundsson, and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner
Performance Date: July 17, 2022
Revivals
Puccini’s “Il Tabarro” and “Gianni Schicchi” will be performed in a double bill starring Wolfgang Koch, Yonghoon Lee, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Lindsay Ammann, Ambrogio Maestri, Emily Pogorelc, Lindsay Ammann, and Galeano Salas.
Performance Dates: Sept. 18 & 19, 2021
Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” will be conducted by Bertrand de Billy. The opera will star Christof Fischesser, Anja Kampe, Benjamin Bruns, and John Lundgren.

Anne Sofie von Otter and Maurizio Muraro round out the cast with Thomas Hengelbrock conducting.

Anja Harteros makes her role debut as Kundry in Wagner’s “Parsifal” alongside Christian Gerhaher as Amfortas, Christof Fischesser as Gurnemanz, Jochen Schmeckenbecher as Klingsor, and Simon O’Neill in the title role. Mikko Franck conducts the production.

Anna Netrebko stars in Verdi’s “Macbeth” alongside Artur Rucinski, Vitalij Kowaljow, and Evan LeRoy Johnson. Ludovic Tézier will also perform the title role alongside Tareq Nazmi, Ekaterina Semenchuk, and Freddie De Tommaso. Andrea Battistoni and Fabio Luisi conduct.

Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” spotlights Christof Fischesser as Baron Ochs, Samantha Hankey as Octavian, and Marlis Petersen as Die Feldmarchallin with Johannes Martin Kränzle as Faninal and Katharina Konradi as Sophie. Galeano Salas and Evan LeRoy Johnson interpret the role of the Italian singer with Vladimir Jurowski conducting.
