John Osborn, Tamara Wilson, Francesca Dotto, & Carmela Remigio Lead Teatro La Fenice’s 2021-22 Season

Italy’s Teatro La Fenice has announced its 2021-22 season featuring 11 operatic productions and several vocal concerts.

Here is a look.

Opera 

Sesto Quatrini conducts Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” which is set to star Monica Zanettin in the title role, Manuela Custer as Suzuki, Vincenzo Costanzo as Pinkerton, and Alberto Mastromarino as Sharpless.

Performance Dates: Sept. 10-22, 2021

Antonio Poli sings the title role in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” alongside George Petean as Conte di Luna, Francesca Dotto as Leonora, and Carmen Topciu as Azucena. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts the revival.

Performance Dates: Sept. 11- 23, 2021

Cecilia Ligorio directs a new production of Mozart’s “Apollo et Hyacintus” in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti. Giancarlo Andretta conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7-15, 2021

Barbe&Doucet direct a new production of Donizetti’s “La Fille du Regiment” with John Osborn, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Lionel Peintre, and Marisa Laurito. Stefano Ranzani conducts the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14-22, 2021

Ian Koziara and Tamara Wilson lead Beethoven’s “Fidelio” with Tilmann Rönnebeck, Leonardo Cortellazzi, Bongani Justice Kubheka, and Oliver Zwarg. Myung-Whun Chung conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-30, 2021

Enrico Calesso conducts a new production of Battistelli’s “Le Baruffe” with Damiano Michieletto directing. The cast includes Alessandro Luongo, Silvia Frigato, Valeria Girardello, Francesca Sorteni, Enrico Casari, Marcello Nardis, Rocco Cavalluzzi, Loriana Castellano, Lombardi Mazzulli, Pietro Di Bianco, Leonardo Cortellazzi, and Federico Longhi.

Performance Dates: Feb. 22-March 4, 2022

Antonio Corianò, Michele Pertusi, Roberta Mantegna, Antonio Poli star in Verdi’s “I Lombardi” in a new production by Valentino Villa with Sebastiano Rolli conducting.

Performance Dates: April 1-9, 2022

Alex Esposito and Carmela Remigio return to Gounod’s “Faust” with Paola Gardina and Julie Mellor. Frédéric Chaslin conducts.

Performance Dates: April 22-30, 2022

Diego Fasolis conducts Vivaldi’s “La Griselda” in a new production by Gianluca Falaschi.

Performance Dates: April 29-May 8, 2022

Francesco Erle conducts Caldara’s “Scipione nelle Spagne” in a new production by Francesco Bellotto.

Performance Dates: May 26-28, 2022

Paul Curran directs a new production of Britten’s “Peter Grimes” with Brenden Gunnell in the title role and Mark Doss as Captain Balstrode. Juraj Valčuha conducts.

Concerts 

Myung-Whun Chung conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with soloists Maida Hundeling, Anke Vondung, Vincent Wolfsteiner, and Thoms Johannes Mayer.

Myung-Whun Chung conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. Soloists to be announced.
