Jochen Kupfer Replaces Alexey Markov In Dresden’s ‘Carmen’

Alexey Markov has canceled the final performance of Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Semperoper Dresden.

The company announced that Markov would be unable to perform due to illness. As a result, Jochen Kupfer will sing the role of Escamillo in the performance on June 8, 2019.

Kupfer recently performed at the Nurnberg Staatstheater, and Teatro Verdi. His repertoire includes works by Prokofiev, Verdi, Wagner, Beethoven, and Strauss. He has performed around the world in Hong Kong, Lucerne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Montpelier, among others.

His next engagements include Prokofiev’s “Krieg und Frieden” in Nurnberg and recitals with music by Schreker, Mahler, R. Strauss, and Hans Sommer.

Kupfer joins a cast that includes Maria Kataeva, Daniel Johansson, and Iulia Maria Dan. Antonino Fogliani conducts the production by  Axel Köhler.
