Jessica Pratt, Irina Lungu, Markus Werba, & Gregory Kund Lead Teatro Massimo Bellini’s 2024-25 Season

The Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania has announced its 2024-25 season.

Opera

The season opens with Bellini’s “Norma” with Leonardo Sini conducting a production by Hugo De Ana. The cast will include Jessica Pratt and Irina Lungu in the title role alongside Antonio Poli, Elisa Balbo, Aya Wakizono, Carlo Lepore, and Alessio Cacciamani.

Performance Dates: Jan. 18-26, 2025

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will be conducted by Beatrice Venezi and directed by Davide Garattini. The cast will include Markus Werba, Christian Fed, Desirée Rancatore, Elisa Verzier, Valerio Borgioni, Matteo Falcier, Josè Maria Lo Monaco, Evgeniya Vukkert, Cristian Senn, Salvatore Salvaggio, Shi Zong, Costantino Finucci, Zerlina Albane Carrère, Cristin Arsenova, and Andrea Luca Park.

Performance Dates: March 7-15, 2025

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will be conducted by Alessandro D’Agostini and directed by Lino Privitera. Valeria Sepe and Myrtò Papatanasiu star alongside Leonardo Caimi, Carlo Ventre, Laura Verrecchia, Carlotta Vichi, Luca Galli, and Francesco Landolfi.

Performance Dates: April 11-19, 2025

Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” will be conducted by Riccardo Bisatti and will star John Osborn, Giulio Pelligra, Marina Monzò, Federica Foresta, Giuliana Di Stefano, Nikolai Zemlianskikh, and Alfonso Muijca.

Performance Dates: Oct. 17-25, 2025

Verdi’s “Otello” concludes the season with a cast that includes Gregory Kunde, Gaston Rivero, Lana Kos, Francesca Maionchi, Franco Vassallo, and Simone Piazzola. Fabrizio Maria Carminati conducts the production by Giancarlo Del Monaco.

Performance Dates: Nov. 21-29, 2025

Concerts

Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 will be conducted by Vitali Alekseenok and will include soloist Polina Shamaeva.

Alessandro De Marchi conducts soloists mezzo-soprano Albane Carrère and flutist Salvatore Vella in a program of music by Bach, Scarlatti, Respighi, and Berio.

Giulio Prandi conducts mezzo-soprano Josè Maria Lo Monaco in music by Nicola Campogrande, Georg. F. Händel, and Sergio Rendine.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2025

Fabrizio Maria Carminati conducts Antonio Poli, and Giorgio Caoduro in music by Puccini and Verdi.

Performance Dates: May 30 & 31, 2025

Recitals

Franco Vassallo and Giovanni Brollo perform music by Wolfgang A. Mozart, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Arrigo Boito, Giacomo Puccini, Francesco P. Tosti, Franz Liszt, Ruggero Leoncavallo, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Performance Date: Dec. 1, 2024

The Coro del Teatro Massimo Bellini will be conducted by Luigi Petrozziello in music by Rosetta Tharpe, Wallace Willis, Chatles Albert Tindley, Thomas A. Dorsey, Michael Bublé, Mariah Carey, Muddley Waters, Sant’Alfonso Maria De’ Liguori, and Roberto De Simone.
