Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition Announces Schedule for 2025 Edition
By David SalazarThe Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition has announced its slate for its 25th edition in 2025.
Per President Dr. Oliver Worthington III, the competition, which takes place between May 12-17, 2025, ” is proud to celebrate 25 years of supporting singers and the opera art form. To more deeply support Mrs. Jensen’s love of opera, we’re looking to the future (even as we celebrate our 25-year history), and that future is full of new works. Our Facing Forward Award will go to the 2025 Finalist who offers the best performance of an aria written in the 21st century. This award will be an addition to our First, Second, Third, and Encouragement Awards, so one singer could win as much as $25,000 this year.”
Singers will be required to prepare five arias, including one in Italian, another in German, another in English, another in French, and another in a language of the artist’s choice. One of the five arias must be composed after 2000.
The Competition is sponsored by the Fritz & Lavinia Jensen Foundation and was created in 2000. Since its inception, it has provided over $930,000 of support for 446 singers. Past first place winners include Magdalena Kuzma, Lawrence Basara Kiharangwa, Shannon Keegan, Megan Moore, Olivia Vote, Felicia Moore, John Brancy, and Adam Lau, among others.
