Jennifer Rowley Leads Palm Beach Opera’s ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Palm Beach Opera is set to open its first mainstage production of the 2023 Season with “Madama Butterfly.” The production opens on Jan. 20, 2023 and runs through Jan. 22.

The opera will be conducted by acclaimed Italian conductor Carlo Montanaro and will showcase American stage director Alison Mortiz’s production.

Sopranos Jennifer Rowley and Toni Marie Palmertree share the title role of Ci0-Cio San. Notably, Rowley will also make her role debut in this production which star tenors Jonathan Burton and Robert Watson as Pinkerton. Mezzo-soprano Renee Tatum will perform as Suzuki and baritone Troy Cook will sing the role of Sharpless.

General & Artistic Director David Walker said, “We believe there is still much to be learned from ‘Madama Butterfly,’ and we aim to celebrate its beauty while continuing to reflect on how it resonates with us today.”

The company also noted that “in an effort to best present Puccini’s famed opera in today’s modern world, Palm Beach Opera’s production also features carefully-selected costumes and thoughtful design details.”
