
Jamie Barton, Limmie Pulliam, Kenneth Kellogg, Lauren Margison Headline Opera Memphis’ 2025-26 Season
By David SalazarOpera Memphis has unveiled its 2025-26 season, which celebrates the company’s 70th anniversary.
First up is the “30 Days of Opera,” a series of free performances across the city. The event is sponsored by ArtsMemphis, AutoZone, Tennessee Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, FedEx, Hyde Family Foundation, and The Morton Museum of Collierville History.
Performance Dates: Sept. 1 – 30, 2025
“I Hear America Singing” will feature the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and American music in opera, musical theater, and popular song. The event features the premiere of two short operas: “Loss & The Century Upon Us” with music by Rene Orth and words by Jerre Dye; and “A.E. Reverie” with music by Kamala Sankaram and words by Jerre Dye.
Performance Dates: Oct. 18, 2025
Next up is “Lazer Divas vs. Sky Pirates of Destiny.”
Performance Dates: Nov. 15, 2025
There will be a production of “The Barber of Seville” conducted by Jonathan King and directed by Ned Canty.
Performance Dates: Jan. 23 & 24, 2026
Steven Osgood conducts the world premiere of “Pretty Little Room” by Robert G. Patterson and Jerre Dyle. Joy Brooke Fairfield and Ned Canty direct the new opera that is based on the true story of Alice Mitchell and Freda Ward.
Performance Dates: Feb. 2o – 21, 2026
Jamie Barton performs in recital.
Performance Dates: March 21, 2026
Jamie Barton appears alongside Limmie Pulliam, Kenneth Kellogg and Lauren Margison in Verdi’s Requiem.
Performance Dates: March 28, 2026
The season ends with “Sweeney Todd.”
Performance Dates: June 12 – July 12, 2026
