James Newby, Pumeza Matshikiza & Massimo Cavalletti Lead Staatsoper Hannover’s 2023-24 Season

The Staatsoper Hannover has announced its 2023-24 season featuring eight new productions.

Premieres 

Stephan Zilias conducts Wagner’s “Parsifal” in a new production by Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson. The cast includes Michael Kupfer-Radecky, Daniel Eggert, Shavleg Armasi, Marco Jentzsch, Tómas Tómasson, Seth Carico, and Irene Roberts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 24-Oct. 31, 2023

“Turning Turandot” will be conducted by Richard Schwennicke and directed by Olivia Hyunsin Kim. 

Performance Dates: Nov. 4-Dec. 12, 2023

Bellini’s “I Capuletti e I Montecchi” is set to star Daniel Eggert, Jakub Szmidt, Meredith Wohlgemuth, Nina van Essen, and Marco Lee. Andrea Sanguineti conducts the new production by Michael Talke.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11-Dec. 30, 2023

Bischoff’s “Kasimir und Karoline” will star Drew Sarich, Dejan Bućin, Sophia Euskirchen, Philipp Kapeller, Ketevan Chuntishvili, Yannick Spanier, Frank Schneiders, and Daniel Eggert. Maxim Böckelmann conducts the production by Martin G. Berger.

Performance Dates: Dec. 8, 2023-June 13, 2024

Reimann’s “Lear” will star Michael Kupfer-Radecky, Yannick Spanier, Richard Walshe, Darwin Prakash, Pawel Brozek, Philipp Kapeller, Marco Lee, and Frank Schneiders. Stephan Zilias conducts the new production by Joe Hill-Gibbins.

Performance Dates: Feb. 10-March 21, 2024

Nina van Essen, Meredith Wohlgemuth, and Luisa Mordel star in Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice.” Benjamin Bayl conducts the new production by Lisaboa Houbrechts.

Performance Dates: March 22-May 17, 2024

The kinder-oper “Wanda Walfisch” will be presented in a production by Maria Kwaschik. Max Bilbe conducts.

Performance Dates: April 5-May 14, 2024

Barno Ismatullaeva, Monika Walerowicz, José Simerilla Romero, and Shavleg Armasi star in Verdi’s “Messa di Requiem” with James Hendry conducting.

Ruzana Grigorian sings the title role of Bizet’s “Carmen” with Young Woo Kim, Barno Ismatullaeva, Richard Walshe, and Darwin Prakash. Stephen Zilias conducts.

Sunnyboy Dladla, Luvuyo Mbundu, Frank Schneiders, Beatriz Miranda, and Yannick Spanier star in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with James Hendry conducting.

Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” will star Markus Suihkonen, Richard Walshe, Dimitra Kotidou, Ketevan Chuntishvili, Darwin Prakash and Petra Radulović.

Ronchetti’s “Pinocchios Abenteuer” will star Mengqi Zhang and will be conducted by Richard Schwennicke.

Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” is set to star Frank Schneiders, Richard Walshe, Michael Kupfer-Radecky, Monika Walerowicz, Nina van Essen, Beatriz Miranda, Meredith Wohlgemuth, Nikki Treurniet, and Robert Künzli. James Hendry conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 25-Dec. 26, 2023

Andeka Gorrotxategi sings the title role of Verdi’s “Otello” alongside Daniel Miroslaw, Marco Lee, José Simerilla Romero, Barno Ismatullaeva, and Kiandra Howarth. James Hendry conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2023-Jan. 18, 2024

Pumeza Matshikiza stars in Verdi’s “Aida” with Monika Walerowicz, Ruzana Grigorian, Denys Pivnitskyi, Shavleg Armasi, Markus Suihkonen, and Massimo Cavalletti. Leonardo Sini and James Hendry conduct.

Performance Dates: Jan 31-Feb. 16, 2024

Richard Schwennicke conducts Zer-Brech-Lich. Victoria Antonova, Alice Giuliani, and Laila White star.

Darwin Prakash, Kiandra Howarth, Ketevan Chuntishvili, Richard Walshe, and Nina van Essen star in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

Performance Dates: May 10-June 16, 2024

Philip Glass’ “The Fall of the House of Usher” will be conducted by Carlos Vázquez. The cast will include Lluís Calvet i Pey, Peter O’Reilly, Petra Radulović, Jakub Szmidt, and Fabio Dorizzi.
