James Danner Headlines Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble’s ‘The Light that is Felt’

By David Salazar

Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble will continue its “Songs from Hibernation” series with “The Light that is Felt” on Dec. 17, 2020.

The recital will feature tenor James Danner alongside pianist Chris Fecteau as they perform music by William Grant Still, Samuel Barber, and Charles Ives.

In his program notes, Danner revealed that “In learning and reviewing these songs, I was drawn in by this image of beams of light, stretching across a chilly room–perhaps it is the afternoon in December and for a moment no one is home; the outstretched beams are soft and brilliant as they touch and refract the interior, arcing slowly through and away. Feeling Light in its myriad aspects, the sort of sacredness of the mundane which it alights, can so catch one off guard. For me, it is so interconnected with memory and remembering–and moreover, the perspective which it can bring.”

The concert can be streamed via Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble’s official YouTube channel.

Next up will be “Uplifting a Struggling Spirit” starring Christa Dalmazio. The company opens 2021 with “El Viaje definitivo” headlined by Luisamaria Hernandez. The company will alos perform “Amazonian Legends” with Flavie Darcie and Chris Fecteau as the duo takes on music by Waldemar Henrique, Chiquinha Gonzaga, and Cacilda Borges Barbosa.
