By David Salazar

Alkemie is set to present a concert in anticipation of the release of its album “A Worthy Mirror” on Nov. 5 and 6, 2026.

Per an official press release, the project is “a time-traveling dialogue with the 12th-century trobairitz” that features music by eight female and non-binary composers. The ensemble features Tracy Cowart (voice, harps), Ben Matus (voice, recorders, dulcian, bagpipes), David McCormick (vielle), Sian Ricketts (voice, recorders, douçaines), Niccolo Seligmann (vielle, psaltery, scheitholt, viola da gamba, triangle), and Ellie Sutherland (voice). Gookin joins as guest artist.

The Nov. 5 showcase is set for 7 p.m. at the Urbane Arts Club in Brooklyn, while the Nov. 6 performance will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church in Manhattan. Following both concerts, there will be a reception wherein audience members will get a chance to engage with artists.

The album is set to launch on Nov. 6, 2026.

Based in New York City, Alkemie performs on more than two dozen early instruments and self-presents an annual concert series. The group has appeared at the Amherst Early Music Festival, Berkeley Early Music Festival, Five Boroughs Music Festival, the Met Cloisters, and the Morgan Library, among others, and has collaborated with Chanticleer, InSeries Opera, Rose of the Compass, and TENET.

Gookin founded Forward Music Project, which commissions new multimedia works for solo cello that elevate stories of feminine empowerment.
