
James Conlon to Lead Free Performances of Carla Lucero’s ‘Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén’
By David SalazarLos Angeles Opera will present two free performances of “Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén” by Carla Lucero on March 14 and 15, 2025.
The performance will feature a collaboration between 300 amateur musicians at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Leading the showcase will be James Conlon. “Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén” explores the sixth station of the cross where women weep for Christ as he is fored toward crucifixion. In the opera, the unnamed women are given more life and depth and their confrontation with evil is at the forefront of the story. The opera originally premiered back in 2022.
The work will be headlined by soprano Maria Elena Altany as Sacrifice, mezzo-soprano Meagan Martin as Love, mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell as Purpose, bass Vinícius Costa as Pontius Pilate, soprano Alaysha Fox as Mary, tenor Ashley Faatoalia as Simon and countertenor Stephen Pitters as the Angel. Eli Villanueva directs.
The March 14 performance kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and the one a day later commences at 3 p.m.
