Iwona Sobotka To Open Dresden Philharmonic’s 2019-20 Season

The Dresden Philharmonic is set to open its season with a unique program led by its new chief conductor and artistic director Marek Janowski.

The program will include The Four Sacred Songs by Verdi and Luigi Dallapicola’s “Canti di prigionia.” The concert will include the MDR Radio Choir and soloist Iwona Sobotka.

Sobotka is a well-known soprano who won the first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Belgium in 2004and has performed in Carnegie Hall as well as under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle at the Easter Festival Baden-Baden.

She has also performed Pamina at the “Teatr Wielki” in Warsaw and Mimì in “La Bohème” at the Opera Podlaska in Białystok. Sobotka is also a frequent guest in Berlin and Leipzig.

The gala concert is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2019, at the Kulturpalast
