The Jacobs School of Music Opera Theater will present Wagner’s masterpiece “Parsifal” this fall as part of Indiana University’s bicentennial celebration.

The Jacobs School regularly produced “Parsifal” from 1949 to 1976, and will now revive the tradition after a 43-year hiatus.

Chris Alexander will direct the production, which will star Canadian tenor and Jacobs alumnus Chris Lysack in the title role. Atlanta Opera Music Director and Jacobs professor Arthur Fagan will lead the orchestra.

“There is perhaps no other school in the world that could perform this extraordinarily demanding opera,” says IU President Michael A. McRobbie. “We are extremely excited to bring this epic opera back to Bloomington and to the Musical Arts Center, and we look forward to audiences experiencing why it is considered one of the most unique, demanding and engrossing works in the operatic repertoire.”

Performances will be held at the Musical Arts Center from Nov. 10 – 16, 2019.
