Israeli Opera Finds New ‘Tosca’ Director Following Royal Ballet & Opera’s Cancelation

The Israeli Opera has announced a new director for its upcoming “Tosca.”

The company said that Ido Ricklin will direct the production after the Royal Ballet and Opera canceled their planned co-production.

The Royal Ballet and Opera announced in August that it would be collaborating with the Israeli Opera following an open letter signed by 182 Royal Ballet and Opera employees “condemning the organization’s silence on Israel’s genocidal conduct, which has killed over 60,000 Palestinians.”

Ricklin is the Israeli Opera’s Dramaturg and has directed numerous theatre productions in Israel, including the opera “Baruchs Schweigen” in Germany. With the Israeli Opera, he has directed the War Requiem (2024), “Theodor (2023),” “Alcina (2022)” and “L’Italiana in Algeri (2021).”

“Tosca” is set to star Carmen Giannattasio, Barno Ismatullaeva, Matteo Lippi, Gevorg Hakobyan, and Ionut Pascu. The production opens on July 17, 2026.
