The Opera Verace Foundation has awarded its second annual Young Artist Career Development Grant of $10,000 to mezzo-soprano Isabel Signoret, recognizing her exceptional vocal artistry and compelling stage presence.

The grant was established to support emerging singers who embody the foundation’s commitment to “opera verace” – genuine, truthful opera – the grant specifically targets artists who have recently graduated from an opera house training program and demonstrate excellence both vocally and theatrically.

In a statement, Terry and Daniel Rubin, co-founders of the Opera Verace Foundation said, “In our young recipient we have found an artist who embodies the very essence of ‘opera verace. Great opera does not merely please the ear—it must pierce the heart. Isabel understands this instinctively, approaching each role not just as a vocal challenge, but as a soul to be inhabited and revealed.”

Signoret grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Her early career brought notable recognition in Texas, including finalist honors in the Houston Saengerbund Awards and the Dallas Opera Guild Biennial Lone Star Vocal Competition, and semifinalist status in the Houston Grand Opera Concert of Arias.

She went on to train with the Aspen Opera Center, Wolf Trap Opera, the Houston Grand Opera Young Artist Vocal Academy, and the Miami Music Festival. Since 2020, she has been part of the Wiener Staatsoper family—first through its young artist studio, then as a full ensemble member—accumulating over 150 performances on that storied stage.
