Boston Lyric Opera has announced that it will kick off production on “desert in,” a new opera miniseries set to launch in June on operabox.tv.

The eight-part series will feature such artists as Nico Muhly, Wang Lu, Jesus Garcia, Vijay Iyer, Nathalie Joachim, Isabel Leonard, Talise Trevigne, Davone Tines, Edward Nelson, and Alan Pingarron, among others.

The work was co-created by composer Ellen Reid, playwright and screenwriter Christopher Oscar Peña, and director James Darrah. Among the writers/librettists for the show are Kirsten Greenidge, Ryan J. Haddad, Quentin Nguyen-duy, A. Rey Pamatmat, Roxie Perkins, and Jesse J. Sanchez.

Other key collaborators on the project include music director David Angus, director of photography Michael Elias Thomas, costume designer Molly Irelan, production designer Yuki Izumihara, and lighting designer/gaffer Pablo Santiago.

The work, which was commissioned by Boston Lyric Opera, is being produced in association with Long Beach Opera.
