Isabel Leonard & Carlos Álvarez Lead Metropolitan Opera’s ‘El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego’

The Metropolitan Opera is set to present Gabriela Lena Frank’s “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego” with a libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz.

The opera will be directed by Deborah Colker and conducted by Music Director, Yannick Nezet-Seguin.

The opera will star Isabel Leonard stars as Kahlo alongside Baritone Carlos Álvarez as Rivera. They will be joined by soprano Gabriella Reyes as Catrina, mistress of the underworld, and countertenor Nils Wanderer as Leonardo.

Steven Osgood will also conduct.

The opera will be performed between May 14 and June 5. The performance of “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego” on May 30 will be transmitted live to movie theaters throughout the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series. The May 14 and 30 performances will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
