The Metropolitan Opera is set to revive Carrie Cracknell’s production of Bizet’s “Carmen.”
The work will be performed 13 times with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard taking on the lead role alongside tenor Michael Fabiano and Matthew Polenzani.
The cast will also include soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan as Micaëla and bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as Escamillo. Fabien Gabel, in his company debut, conducts the fall run.
In the winter, mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina will return to the production she opened alongside Fabiano as Don José, soprano Janai Brugger as Micaëla, and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Escamillo. Pier Giorgio Morandi and Derrick Inouye alternate in the pit.
The Oct. 28, Nov. 17, and Jan. 17 performances of “Carmen” will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
