The International Opera Awards has announced that MusikTheater an der Wien will host the 2026 awards ceremony for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026.

MusikTheater an der Wien received the Opera Company Award in 2025, and joins a distinguished list of past hosts that includes Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, and Greek National Opera in Athens. The ceremony will feature performances from stars of the opera world, to be announced at a later date.

Built in 1801 by Mozart’s librettist Emanuel Schikaneder, the Theater an der Wien is one of Vienna’s most historically significant venues, having hosted the world premiere of Beethoven’s “Fidelio” among many other landmark productions. The house celebrates its 225th anniversary this year.

Founded by philanthropist Harry Hyman in 2012, the International Opera Awards honor exceptional operatic talent from around the globe and have become a landmark event on the international opera calendar. The awards also generate funds for the Opera Awards Foundation, which provides bursaries for emerging operatic talent worldwide.

Nominations for the 2026 Awards open on Tuesday, June 30 at operaawards.org.
