International Contemporary Ensemble to Present ‘Anthony Davis & Leila Adu-Gilmore’

By David Salazar

International Contemporary Ensemble is set to present “Anthony Davis & Leila Adu-Gilmore” on March 2, 2024 at the NYU Skirball Center.

The showcase will feature Davis at the piano alongside vocalist Adu-Gilmore. Both performers will present their own compositions.

First up, audiences will hear the world premiere of the live version of Adu-Gilmore’s “Mahakala Oratorio.” Then comes her “Alyssum” for harp ad string quartet.

“The music itself reflects Adu-Gilmore’s genre-mixing style, which draws on the traditional music of New Zealand; her informal training in punk, indie, and hip-hop as well as freely improvised music in the African-American free jazz tradition; and formal training for chamber ensemble and orchestra,” an official press release by International Contemporary Ensemble notes about Adu-Gilmore’s works.

Then come two works by Davis, including “Wayang No. II (Shadowdance)” and “Clonetics.”
