
International Brazilian Opera Company Announces Carnegie Hall Showcase In Collaboration with Opera Ebony
By David SalazarThe International Brazilian Opera Company (IBOC) will present “An Evening with Seven Living Brazilian Opera Composers” at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on Nov. 16, 2026 at 8 p.m.
The showcase will open the second biennial “IBOC Opera Nova: NYC” concert season in collaboration with Opera Ebony, which was founded by Benjamin Matthews, Wayne Sanders, Sister EliseSisson, and Margaret Harris in 1974.
IBOC Artistic Director João MacDowell curated the program, which features works by Clarice Assad, Jorge Antunes, Franciele Regina Lima, MacDowell, Jocy de Oliveira, João Guilherme Ripper, and Sombrio da Silva.
The vocal soloists are mezzo soprano Chantelle Grant, soprano Kyaunnee Richardson, soprano Victoria A. Davis, baritone Kevin Johnson, and tenor Nelson Ebo, with pianist Mireia Frutos Fernández. A mezzo-soprano for the da Silva selections has yet to be confirmed.
“New York is hearing more of the Americas on its major stages. This is the moment to listen to Brazilian composers. We hope to be bringing awareness to an exciting scene, with a variety of styles and the potential to enchant US opera audiences,” MacDowell said, per an official press release.
The IBOC Opera Nova 2026-27 season will continue with a salon-style performance series in January 2027 at Berimbau Restaurant.
