
Indeterminacy Festival to Present World Premiere of ‘Directions for Making a Round Ark’
By David SalazarThe Indeterminacy Festival will present the world premiere of “Directions for Making a Round Ark.”
The new chamber opera, which retells a Babylonian flood myth predating the biblical story of Noah’s Ark by a thousand years, unfolds in three parts and features three soloists joined by an intergenerational consortium of over 70 Brooklyn-based choral singers and instrumentalists conducted by Yonatan Dvir.
The cast features soprano Alexandra Lang as Enki, tenor Michael Anderson as Atra-Hasis, the Babylonian Noah, and bass Bert K. Johnson as Enlil. The production is created in collaboration with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Bass Ensemble, Grace Chorale, BK Treble, New York Choir Project, and musicians from the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra. An introduction will be offered by Dr. Pinar Durgan, Department Head of Ancient Western Asian Seals & Tablets at the Morgan Library.
Performances take place Sunday, May 31 at 8 p.m. at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and Sunday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at The Space at Irondale.
