IN Series has announced that it will honor director Peter Sellars during its 2024 Gala.

The famed opera director will receive the first-ever June Jordan Award on May 2. The Award recognizes “living creative voices whose body of work reflects the poetic principles exuding the many writings, workings, wonderings of luminary poet and activist June Jordan.”

Sellars has directed operas at all the major companies including the Dutch National Opera, English National Opera, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Opéra National de Paris, Salzburg Festival, and San Francisco Opera. He has also been a key collaborator with composer John Adams and has mounted the inaugural productions of such works as “Nixon in China,” “The Death of Klinghoffer,” “El Niño,” and “Doctor Atomic,” among others.

The gala event will also feature performances by such artists as Aryssa Leigh Burrs, Teresa Ferarra, Shana Oshiro, Daniel Smith, and Elizabeth Mondragon.
