Igor Golovatenko to Participate in Bolshoi Theatre Gala Alongside Putin Supporters Valery Gergiev & Ildar Abdrazakov

Igor Golovatenko is set to perform at the Bolshoi Theatre in an anniversary gala on Feb. 28, 2026.

The baritone, who is one of the leading Bolshoi Theatre baritones and a leading international baritone, will perform in a gala dedicated to Agunda Kulaeva. He will be showcased alongside prominent Putin supporters including Ildar Abdrazakov, and Hibla Gerzmava as well as Valery Gergiev, who has become a prominent political figure since the war in Ukraine began in 2022.

The concert also include performances by Elchin Azizov,  Alexey Tatarintsev, Ivan Gyngazov, and Oleg Dolgov.

This season, Golovatenko is set to perform in the Metropolitan Opera’s “Eugene Onegin,” which will be broadcast live in HD. He was recently in the Met’s production of “Andrea Chénier,” where he performed the role of Carlo Gérard and was also broadcast live in HD.

The Bolshoi Theatre has banned the work “Nureyev,” complying with Putin’s expanded anti-LGBT law.

Since the war in Ukraine began, the Bolshoi Theatre has canceled LGBTQ+ art and has fired numerous artists from its house this past year for speaking out against the war in Ukraine.
