Iestyn Davies, Carolyn Sampson, I Fagiolini Headline Christmas at Cadogan 2020 Slate

UK-based Christmas at Cadogan is set to return in 2020 with a number of unique socially-distanced and virtual events.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on opera and choral events. Please note that not all performances are live or streamed (we will state “Streaming Date” under performances that can be viewed virtually and “Performance Date” for those that will be live).

COLLABRO will present “COLLABRO – Christmas is Here” as a means of launching the organization’s new album.

Streaming Date: Nov. 28, 2020

The English Chamber Orchestra will present a reduced version of Handel’s “Messiah,” with such soloists as soprano Carolyn Sampson, countertenor Iestyn Davies, tenor Andrew Staples, and bass Matthew Brook.

Performance Date: Dec. 6, 2020

Harry Christophers and The Sixteen will present “A Choral Odyssey” featuring six centuries of choral masterworks from a variety of styles.

Performance Date: Dec. 15, 16, 23, 2020

Streaming Date: Dec. 23, 2020

Carols of Candlelight will present a holiday concert featuring songs by Cullen, Pearsall, Willcocks, Handel, Rutter, and Vaughan Williams. The program will also feature the Mozart Festival Ensemble and Chorus, soprano Harriet Eyley, and conductor Steven Devine.

Performance Date: Dec. 24, 2020

I Fagiolini and the Rainer Hersch Orkestra will join forces for a New Year’s Eve gala that will include music by Bizet, Handel, Pachabel, Wagner, Ravel, and Beethoven. There will also be a world premiere performance of “Trump: The Opera.”
