Iași National Opera General Manager Resigns due to Ongoing Investigation

Beatrice Rancea, the general manager of Iași National Opera in Romania, has resigned.

The General Manager, who had already been suspended in March, resigned due to an ongoing investigation into the spending of public subsidy received by the theatre in eastern Romania. In a statement, Rancea stated, “my achievements as a manager have lately been denigrated and condemned, being put in a petty and denigrating magnifying glass. Standing in court, some people have started a public discredit campaign, accusing me of the most serious actions, with the intention of damaging my image and reputation, aiming only at the vacancy of manager.

Rancea has not been charged with any fraud as of this date.

In March, the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors placed Rancea under judicial control in an embezzlement case and was accused of mishandling of one million Euro. Prosecutors claim that Rancea used the money for fictitious services and products, and used the subsidies for personal interest.

Rancea served as the company’s General Manager for 10 years. The Iași National Opera recently named Florin Daniel Șandru as its interim General Manager.
