Iași National Opera Names Interim General Manager Amid Embezzlement Investigation

By Francisco Salazar

The Iași National Opera has named Florin Daniel Șandru as its interim General Manager.

The Romanian company announced the decision as a result of Beatrice Rancea’s suspension as she is under investigation for embezzlement.

Earlier on March 4, the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors placed Rancea under judicial control in an embezzlement case. Rancea alongside other suspects are being investigated for the mishandling of 1 million Euro. Prosecutors claim that Rancea used the money for fictitious services and products, and used the subsidies the Opera in Iasi received from the Culture Ministry for personal interest.

Rancea has served as the company’s General Manager for the last 10 years. The case was opened up earlier in 2020 when the organization’s accountant accused the administration for irregularities with funds.
