Hungarian State Opera To Hold Puccini Festival

The Hungarian State Opera is set to conclude its 2018-19 season with a Puccini festival.

The three-week Puccini Festival will showcase all of the famed Italian composer’s stage and vocal works. The festival kicks off with “Manon Lescaut” followed by “Tosca.” “La Fanciulla del West” will continue with “Madama Butterfly” and “La Rondine” after. “Edgar,” “La Bohème,” “Il Trittico” and” “Turandot” close out the festival. There will also be performances of his Messa di Requiem, song recitals and a world premiere chamber opera based on “Liù.”

Audiences will hear the best Hungarian artists along with international guest stars including Gregory Kunde who gives a gala concert. As the reconstruction of the Opera House in Budapest is still undergoing, performances will be held at the Erkel Theatre and the newly opened Eiffel Art Studios.

The festival runs from May 18 through June 10, 2019.
