Hui He to Make Catania Debut in Bellini Festival

By Francisco Salazar

Hui He will make her debut in the city of Catania in a special recital entitled “Malinconia.”

The recital will be held during the Bellini Festival 2020 and will take place at the Badia di Sant’Agata. The soprano will be accompanied by pianist Anna Maria Calì and the program will include music by Bellini, Puccini, Giordano, Ponchielli, and Cilea.

In a statement Hui He said, “I am excited to sing for the first time in Catania and to sing Bellini’s music here for the first time. Catania is a wonderful city, rich with artistic and cultural jewels. Bellini is a new composer for me, who is teaching me a lot and also helping me in my ongoing dedication to improving myself technically. Bellini is the master of legato and bel canto expression and requires an obsessive attention to sound and accent. I hope to soon sing Norma on stage, a monument-role that every soprano dreams of.”

Hui He recently sang “La Gioconda” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and is set to make her long-awaited role debut as “Alzira” in Verdi’s early work at the Bilbao Opera.
