The Houston Symphony has announced that Gonzalo Farias has been appointed to the position of Associate Conductor beginning this month.

In his new role, he will lead the ensemble in numerous programs including the Education, Family, Community, and Summer concerts. He will also cover for guest conductors. He is slated to conduct the “Fiesta Sinfónica” concert, “Hocus Pocus,” and “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Maestro.”

“I’m absolutely thrilled to continue working and deepening my relationship with my Hosuton Symphony family,” Farias, who previously served as Associate Conductor for the Kansas City Symphony and Jacksonville Symphony, said per an official press release. Making music at the highest level with such outstanding musicians and administration is a dream come true. I’m so happy to part of this world class orchestra and expand our place as a cultural leader in Houston.”

Farias’ career also includes stints with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The Chilean was also the former Music Director of the Joliet Symphony Orchestra and has worked at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and Pärnu Music Festival.
