Holocaust Music Lost & Found & Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association to Present ‘Refugees of World War II: Reclaiming the Music of Polish Composers’
By David SalazarHolocaust Music Lost & Found (HMLF) and the Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association (PCMA) will present “Refugees of World War II: Reclaiming the Music of Polish Composers” on Nov. 9 at Temple Israel of Boston.
The program explores the life stories and music of Polish composers affected by the Nazi regime, including works by Szymon Laks, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and Roman Ryterband. The concert coincides with the remembrance of Kristallnacht, the pogrom carried out against Jewish communities in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic on Nov. 9 and 10, 1938.
Per an official press release, HMLF founder and president Janie Press said, “This is an opportunity to continue telling the important stories about these composers whose genius long outlasted the Nazis, and reminds us that we must continue to stand against antisemitism and hate.”
PCMA co-founder and president Grzegorz Mania, an award winning pianist, will perform mezzo-soprano Hanna Hipp, violinist Marta Gidazewska, and clarinetist Piotr Lato.
The concert kicks off at 7 p.m. local time.
HMLF fosters the discovery, study, and performance of works by composers whose lives and careers were disrupted or destroyed during the Holocaust. It first connected with PCMA through the Polish Cultural Institute New York, and this is the first HMLF program in Boston.
