Hidekazu Tsumaya, Leonardo Capalbo, George Petean, Mari Moriya Headline New National Theatre Tokyo’s 2022-23 Season

The New National Theatre Tokyo has announced its 2022-23 season which will feature three new productions and seven revivals.

The season kicks off with a new production of Händel’s “Giulio Cesare” starring Marianne Beate Killand, Etsuko Kanoh, Mika Kaneko, Mari Moriya, Daichi Fujiki, and Vitaly Yushmanov. Laurent Pelly directs and Rinaldo Allessandrini conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 2-10, 2022

Evgeny Nikitin, Eiko Koizumi, Kanae Kushima, Mika Kaneko, Maxim Paster, Naoyuki Akitani, Alexey Tikhomirov, Kasumi Shimizu, and Pavel Kolgatin star in a 25th anniversary production of “Boris Godunov” in co-production with the Polish National Opera. Kazushi Ono conducts the production by Mariusz Trelinski.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15-26, 2022 

Conductor Alejo Pérez will lead a revival of “Tannhäuser” with Stephen Gould in the title role. Hidekazu Tsumaya plays Hermann and Sabina Cvilak takes on the role of Elisabeth.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28- Feb. 11, 2023

Nicola Alaimo, Jorge Espino, Kota Murakami, Roberta Mantegna, Rie Miyake, and Marianna Pizzolato headline “Falstaff.” Corrado Rovaris conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 10-25, 2023

Leonardo Capalbo sings the title role in “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” alongside a cast starring Yuka Kobayashi, Yoko Yasui, Mihoko Kinoshita, Chikako Ohsumi, and Eglis Silins. Marko Letonja conducts.

Performance Dates: March 15-21, 2023 

Serena Farnocchia, Roberto Aronica, Franco Vassallo, Judit Kutaski, Takayuki Ito, and Hidekazu Tsumaya star in “Aida.” Carlo Rizzi conducts.

Performance Dates: April 5-21, 2023 

Emilio Sagi directs a new production of “Rigoletto,” conducted by Maurizio Benini. George Petean, Hasmik Torosyan, Iván Ayón Rivas, Hidekazu Tsumaya, and Kasumi Shimizu star.

Performance Dates: May 18-June 3, 2023 

Alex Penda, Ian Storey, Jennifer Larmore, Tómas Tómasson, Jun Suzuki, and Etsuko Kanoh headline “Salome.” Constantin Trinks conducts.

Performance Dates: May 27-June 4, 2023

The season comes to a close with “La Bohème.” Kazushi Ono conducts a cast starring Alessandra Marianelli, Stephen Costello, Valentina Mastrangelo, Toshiaki Komada, and Francesco Leone.

Performance Dates: June 28 – July 8, 2023
