The Mariinsky Theatre is set to celebrate the Mariinksy Theatre II’s anniversary with a gala concert on May 2, 2023.

The concert will feature soloists Hibla Gerzmava, Ildar Abdrazakov, Denis Matsuev, Diana Vishneva, Roman Burdenko, Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, Kimin Kim, Alexey Markov, Yulia Matochkina, Mikhail Petrenko, Renata Shakirova, Vladimir Shklyarov, Maria Shirinkina, Tatiana Serjan, Sergei Skorokhodov, and Konstantin Zverev. The company has not announced whether Pro-Putin conductor Valery Gergiev will lead the gala.

The Mariinsky Theatre II was famously overseen as a major project of Vladimir Putin as he approved the final budget. When it was constructed it was hailed as “Russia’s most important building project in 70 years” and “the first major opera house to be built in Russia since the Czars.”

The theater held a gala on May 2, 2013, that was broadcast worldwide that saw Vladimir Putin in attendance with Valery Gergiev conducting.
